O ye incorporeal angels who stand before the throne of God, luminous with the brilliance thereof and everlastingly shining with radiance. As secondary luminaries, entreat Christ, that He grant unto our souls peace and great mercy. O immortal messengers of the truly incorruptible Life, ye most blessed ones who received life from the first Life, ye have become holy beholders of the eternal Wisdom, full of light, and reflecting lamps shown forth as is meet. O ye archangels and angels, principalities, thrones, dominions, six-winged seraphim, and divine, many-eyed cherubim, instruments of wisdom, virtues and powers most divine. Pray ye to Christ, that He grant our souls peace and great mercy. Archives:

SUNDAY OF THE SAMARITAN WOMAN POST-FESTIVE DAY OF MID-PENTECOST OUR VENERABLE FATHER THEODORE TRICHINAS (THE HAIRSHIRT WEARER)
Our Offerings
The Week of the Samaritan Woman
The Samaritan Woman, Photina, is an image of our baptism. Though the well of Jacob could not quench her thirst, the Lord
revealed to her true worship of the Father in spirit and truth. In this week, we, too, draw of the water of the well of
enlightenment, and we imitate the holy and repentant Photina, this woman enlightened by our Lord. Her feast day is
February 26.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Every Thursday at 8:15 a.m. in the Roman Chancery Chapel next to Sacred Heart Cathedral in Knoxville, the Byzantine
First and Third Hours are prayed. Please come and pray part of the Divine Office for the growth and success of Holy
Resurrection Byzantine Mission.
Vespers (The Hour of Incense and Lights)
“Because it is the public prayer of the Church, the Divine Office is a source of piety and nourishment for personal
prayer…Therefore, pastors of souls should see to it that the chief hours, especially Vespers are celebrated in
common in church on Sundays and the more solemn feasts. And the laity, too, are encouraged to recite the Divine Office,
either with the priest, or among themselves, or even individually.” (Vatican Council, On the Liturgy, pp.90,100)
We are hoping to pray Vespers every Saturday evening, meeting at different places wherever it is available. Please call Ed
Klages if interested.
MOST HOLY THEOTOKOS PRAY FOR US!
Our Blessed Mother has been given great power by her Divine Son. She is forever reaching out to her children to help them,
whatever may be their need. She does not do this in her own right, of course, but by the power of God and His grace. She
has worked countless miracles throughout the centuries to indicate that this truth is not some mere sentiment or pious wish
of the over-imaginative, but is a truth of our religion, which we would be wise to accept, by asking for her help in time
of need.
APRIL 23: COMMERATION OF THE HOLY GREAT MARTYR GEORGE
St. George, a captain in the Roman Army, tore up in defiance an edict of Emperor Diocletion ordering the persecution
of Christians. He battled the devil, symbolized by the dragon, and saved the Holy Church, symbolized by the King’s
daughter shown in a number of icons. He rides a white horse that indicates God’s grace carrying him to the heroism of
martyrdom.
PASTORAL PONDERINGS
St. John Chrysostom, a saint highly regarded both in the Eastern and Western Church, was once summoned before the
Roman emperor Arcadius and threatened with banishment. In reply he said: “You cannot banish me, for the world is my
Father’s house.” “Then I will kill you,” exclaimed the emperor angrily. “No, you
cannot,” retorted Chrysostom, “because my life is hidden with Christ in God.” “Your treasures shall
be confiscated,” the emperor replied grimly. “Sir, you can't do that because my treasures are in heaven as my
heart is there.” “I will drive you from your people and you shall have no friends left,” threatened the
emperor. “That you cannot do either, Sir, for I have a Friend in heaven who has said, ‘I will never leave you
or forsake you.’” In John 14: 1-12, Jesus gives us the same assurance. “In my Father's house
there are many dwelling places. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so
that where I am you also may be.”
Speaking of Houses of the Lord, it should be noted that there are times when our deportment in church does not always match
our belief in the presence of Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. While it is true that our entrance way or vestibule is
not very spacious to allow for visiting before Mass, once we have entered the church there should be silence, especially
prior to the celebration of the Eucharist. Silence allows us to focus on what we are about to do. In a small church such as
ours, even a few people's whispers can be distracting to those who are praying. Being aware and considerate of others is
part of Christian charity as well as just good manners!
