O ye incorporeal angels who stand before the throne of God, luminous with the brilliance thereof and everlastingly shining with radiance. As secondary luminaries, entreat Christ, that He grant unto our souls peace and great mercy. O immortal messengers of the truly incorruptible Life, ye most blessed ones who received life from the first Life, ye have become holy beholders of the eternal Wisdom, full of light, and reflecting lamps shown forth as is meet. O ye archangels and angels, principalities, thrones, dominions, six-winged seraphim, and divine, many-eyed cherubim, instruments of wisdom, virtues and powers most divine. Pray ye to Christ, that He grant our souls peace and great mercy. Archives:

FROM THE CHURCH FATHERS
“By your immeasurable sorrow, O Mother, you removed from the world the sorrow of Eve.”
—St. Theophane, Bishop of Nicea
“O Blessed and Pure Mother, for the joy you felt at the sight of your Risen Son, make me rise from the tomb of my
defects.”
“Shine in splendor, O New Jerusalem, for the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. O Zion, sing with joy and rejoice;
and you, O Pure Theotokos, rejoice in the resurrection of your Son!”
ENTER INTO THE JOY OF THE LORD
Everything possible must be done to keep the season from Pascha to Pentecost alive. We have only to follow the life of the
church and to enter the joy of the Lord.
First of all, the entire life of the Church during Paschaltide is filled with the songs and services of the Resurrection of
Christ. The Paschal Troparion, “Christ is risen from the dead,” is sung at every service. We stand in our
prayers to indicate the absence of sorrow and the victory of life. The vestments, the flowers, the hymns and the
readings—the entire atmosphere of the Church—is that of the Holy Pascha leading to Pentecost. We have but to
enter it and live.
Secondly, we must continue to be in union with the Risen Christ by the reception of the Eucharist or Paschal Banquet. We
must come to understand, once and for all, that the Eucharist is not a mystery tied to Lent and to penance; but, it is the
sacrament of Presence; that is, the Presence of the Risen Christ in our midst. What better and more perfect time is there
to meet Him and to be with Him than in the days following His Resurrection when He remains in our midst and opens to us the
mysteries of the Kingdom of God.
Thirdly, we must make the conscious effort to keep the paschal spirit alive in our homes. Quite externally, this may mean
to keep our homes decorated with flowers so as to keep things bright; to continue a paschal menu; and to dress ourselves in
our finest. All of these things are important, yet they are no replacement for conducting our lives as “resurrected
people.”
One of the paschal hymns states, “Let us forgive all by the resurrection.” This single verse sums up the
paschal spirit in our personal lives—for if we fail to forgive and to love—the forgiveness and love which
springs from the empty tomb will bypass us and the joy of the season will be unattainable.
Finally, we must look forward to Pentecost, to the coming of the Holy Spirit. He will “come and abide in us.”
He will keep us always in the presence of Christ and God the Father. He will make us children of God with Jesus and heirs
of the Kingdom of Heaven. He will strengthen us to live the new life that Christ gives us.
From Pascha to Pentecost—the most wonderful time of the year—let us keep it with fervor befitting our God who
has given it to us!
