O ye incorporeal angels who stand before the throne of God, luminous with the brilliance thereof and everlastingly shining with radiance. As secondary luminaries, entreat Christ, that He grant unto our souls peace and great mercy. O immortal messengers of the truly incorruptible Life, ye most blessed ones who received life from the first Life, ye have become holy beholders of the eternal Wisdom, full of light, and reflecting lamps shown forth as is meet. O ye archangels and angels, principalities, thrones, dominions, six-winged seraphim, and divine, many-eyed cherubim, instruments of wisdom, virtues and powers most divine. Pray ye to Christ, that He grant our souls peace and great mercy. Archives:

ALBAZIN (THE WORD MADE FLESH) ICON — COMMEMORATED MARCH 9
This icon is sometimes called, “Helper of those in Child Labor,” because of its grace-giving aid to women in
their hour of childbirth. The most notable feature is the naked Christ Child shown in full length. This depicts the
pre-eternal God in the ever-virginal womb of the Theotokos.
There is a record of a woman that was in danger of giving birth prematurely. In severe distress and pain, she was not
expected to survive the delivery. Her husband asked that prayers be said before the icon of “The Word Made
Flesh,” and through these prayers the woman safely delivered her child.
Although the incident is asserted to have occurred in the 17th century, it wasn’t until 1868 that we
learn the icon was taken from the Russian city of Albazin to the city of Blagoveshchensk on the Amur River in the Kamchatka
Eparchy by Bishop Benjamin.
When the Akathist was being prayed weekly before The Word Made Flesh Icon, it was one of the bishop’s successors that
established March 9 as the commemoration date of this greatly revered icon.

PASTORAL PONDERINGS
A number of parishioners asked for a copy of the prayer given by the Reverend Joseph Wright to the opening session of the Kansas State Senate. It is as follows: Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know your Word says, “Woe to those who call evil good” but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice; we have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of speech and expression. We have ridiculed the time honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, O God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Amen
