O ye incorporeal angels who stand before the throne of God, luminous with the brilliance thereof and everlastingly shining with radiance. As secondary luminaries, entreat Christ, that He grant unto our souls peace and great mercy. O immortal messengers of the truly incorruptible Life, ye most blessed ones who received life from the first Life, ye have become holy beholders of the eternal Wisdom, full of light, and reflecting lamps shown forth as is meet. O ye archangels and angels, principalities, thrones, dominions, six-winged seraphim, and divine, many-eyed cherubim, instruments of wisdom, virtues and powers most divine. Pray ye to Christ, that He grant our souls peace and great mercy. Archives:

HOLY RESURRECTION BYZANTINE CATHOLIC MISSION
Slava Isusu Christu! Slava Na Niky!
Divine Liturgy begins at 4 p.m. Every Sunday
Potluck supper follows Liturgy on the third Sunday of the month
JULY 22, 2007
Our Offerings
ST. MATTHEW 14:14-22
The Holy Gospel mirrors Christ as the Gracious Lover of Mankind, compassionate in His feeding the multitude. The Gospel also
throws strong light on the way men can collaborate with God’s work; Jesus makes use of His disciples to distribute the
multiplied food. Above all, Jesus is reflected as the Food for our soul, the True Bread come down from heaven.
FEAST OF THE DORMITION OF THE HOLY ANNE
Mother of the Holy Theotokos (July 25)
Anne, the wife of Joachim and the mother of Mary, is the grandmother, according to the flesh, of our Lord, God and Saviour
Jesus Christ. Her name means “grace” or the “gracious one,” or “the loving one.”
TROPARION: “Anne, divinely wise, you carried in your womb the Mother of God, the Immaculate One, who gave life to
inheritance of heaven, to the abode of those who rejoice in glory. O Ever-blessed One, you seek the forgiveness of sins for
those who honor you with fervor. (Tone 4)
KONTAKION: “Let us celebrate the memory of the grandparents of Christ and fervently ask for their help, so that
salvation may be assured for all those who cry out: ‘O God who glorified them according to Your will, remain always with
us!’” (Tone 2)
ST. PANTELEIMON, the Charitable Physician
(Feast Day July 27)
Saint Panteleimon lived in the late third century in Nicodemia. His father was a pagan, but his mother, Eubola, was a
Christian. In addition to his mother, a priest named Hermolaus was instrumental in teaching Panteleimon about Christianity.
As a devout Christian, Panteleimon decided that he was best equipped to serve God as a physician. He learned the medical
profession and practiced it with great charity, thus earning him the title “unmercenary.” He cured many illnesses
not only by his own hand as a physician, but also by the hand of God. One such instance was the cure of the pagan blind man.
Other physicians were not able to cure his blindness, but Panteleimon, by the invocation of God's name, opened the eyes of the
blind man and converted him to Christianity and baptized him.
Filled with envy, the other physicians accused Panteleimon of being a Christian and had him arrested. He was taken to the
Emperor Maximian to stand trial. Before the emperor, he freely declared that he was a Christian and, before the eyes of the
emperor, he healed a paralytic of a long-standing illness. This miracle caused many pagans of the imperial court to convert to
Christianity. Nevertheless, the emperor handed Panteleimon over to be tortured and executed.
On the day of his execution, Saint Panteleimon knelt in prayer. As the executioner struck a blow on Panteleimon’s neck,
the sword broke as though it were made of wax. The executioner was unable to execute him until the saint completed his prayer.
LIPS SEALED WITH THE BLOOD OF JESUS
When we receive Holy Communion our lips are sealed with the blood of God’s Son. The Precious Body and Blood of the Lord
Jesus enters our being through the mouth. Out of such a mouth that is sealed with the blood of Jesus should proceed only words
that glorify God, not careless words that hit and run, that kindle strife and wreck a life, but gracious words that smooth the
way, that lessen stress, that heal and bless. There is a little prayer that says:
“O Lord, let my words be tender and sweet, for tomorrow I may have to eat them.”
And added to this prayer are the words:
“Tomorrow I will not only have to eat them, but I will also have to answer to God for them.”
For the Lord Jesus told us that we must answer for every idle word we have spoken.
He said:
“I tell you, on the day of judgment, men will render account for every careless word they utter; for by your words you
will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37)
