O ye incorporeal angels who stand before the throne of God, luminous with the brilliance thereof and everlastingly shining with radiance. As secondary luminaries, entreat Christ, that He grant unto our souls peace and great mercy. O immortal messengers of the truly incorruptible Life, ye most blessed ones who received life from the first Life, ye have become holy beholders of the eternal Wisdom, full of light, and reflecting lamps shown forth as is meet. O ye archangels and angels, principalities, thrones, dominions, six-winged seraphim, and divine, many-eyed cherubim, instruments of wisdom, virtues and powers most divine. Pray ye to Christ, that He grant our souls peace and great mercy. Archives:

HOLY RESURRECTION BYZANTINE CATHOLIC MISSION
Slava Isusu Chrisu! Slava Na Viky!
Divine Liturgy begins at 4 p.m. Every Sunday
Every Third Sunday of the Month is Food Sunday
Sunday of the Holy Ancestors
Divine Liturgy Intention:
Our Offerings
Tropar of the Holy Ancestors
Through faith, You have justified the ancestors; through them, You have adopted the cause of the future church of the
Gentiles. These saints have rejoiced in their offspring; from their seed comes the glorious fruit born without seed.
Through their prayers, O Christ our God, have mercy on us.
Kondak of the Holy Ancestors
You refused to worship the man-made idol, but you were protected by the Power that is beyond all words. You stood amid
the devouring flames, O thrice-blessed youths, and called upon God, the compassionate Lord: “Hasten to our aid
according to Your will.”
Today’s Gospel: The Great Banquet
In today’s Gospel lesson we hear our Lord tell a story of a great man who was having a banquet to which many were
invited to come. One by one, however, they began to make excuses. One purchased land and could not come; another acquired
oxen and could not come; another was newly married and likewise asked to be excused. In response to the declined
invitations, the master then sent his servant out to invite the poor, the blind, the lame, and the beggars. Those
previously uninvited would now fill the banquet hall.
The Lord told this story to make a comparison between the great banquet and the Kingdom of God. Those who rejected Him
and His message were like those who were offered a place in the banquet hall and refused the invitation. Their places
would then be given to others who would not refuse the invitation because the love of the Lord cannot be contained and
His Kingdom knows no bounds.
We, as Christians, might ask ourselves if we ever reject the Lord or refuse His invitations, or place other things before
Him. Just as the purchase of land or oxen prevented the guests from attending the banquet, do our business concerns or
pursuit of material goods sometimes prevent us from living as we ought, or from worshipping Him each Sunday? Likewise, do
we use family obligations also as an excuse for placing worship of the Lord in a secondary place?
Let us recall that we live best when we live with God.

December 17 — Feast of the Holy Prophet Daniel and the Three Holy Children: Ananias, Azarias, and Mizael
Daniel was carried off into slavery with his companions, Ananias, Azarias, and Mizael in 605 B.C. The details of his
life can be found in the Book of Daniel. God gave him the gift of discernment, enabling him to interpret the dream of
Nebuchadnezzer. Falsely accused by his enemies, Daniel was thrown into a lion pit. By God’s grace he managed to
tame the lion. Daniel is considered one of the four great prophets, along with Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. He
prophesied the time of the coming of the Messiah. The three companions of Daniel refused to worship the king’s
golden idol, and were thrown into a fiery furnace. An angel of the Lord appeared in the furnace with them and they were
untouched by the flames.
Troparion of Daniel
Faith can accomplish great things. Through it, the Three Holy Children rejoice in the flames as if they had been in
refreshing water, and Daniel in the midst of lions is like a shepherd among his sheep. Through their intercession, O
Christ God, save our souls.
The Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly — Psalm 84
Pastoral Ponderings: Penance for Christmas
At 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, Holy Family will celebrate its annual Advent Penance Service. In addition to
me, five other priests are scheduled to hear confessions. As we prepare for Christmas, it’s time to take stock on
where we are and where we’ve been. When examining our consciences, most of us come to the conclusion that
we’re not raging sinners. Rather, we’re more like houses that look neat and orderly, but upon closer
inspection, have a layer of dust over everything. In keeping with this line of thought, I’ve found a little poem
that describes most of us:

Then stooped my guardian angel — Father O’Connell Last updated: 18-Dec-2004 |
