O ye incorporeal angels who stand before the throne of God, luminous with the brilliance thereof and everlastingly shining with radiance. As secondary luminaries, entreat Christ, that He grant unto our souls peace and great mercy. O immortal messengers of the truly incorruptible Life, ye most blessed ones who received life from the first Life, ye have become holy beholders of the eternal Wisdom, full of light, and reflecting lamps shown forth as is meet. O ye archangels and angels, principalities, thrones, dominions, six-winged seraphim, and divine, many-eyed cherubim, instruments of wisdom, virtues and powers most divine. Pray ye to Christ, that He grant our souls peace and great mercy. Archives:

Festal Hymns
Troparion: Tone 4
Today is the preview of the good will of God, of the preaching of the salvation of mankind. The virgin appears in the temple
of God, in anticipation proclaiming Christ to all. Let us rejoice and sing to her: Rejoice, O Fulfillment of the
Creator’s dispensation!
Kontakion: Tone 4
The most pure Temple of the Savior, the precious Chamber and Virgin, the sacred Treasure of the glory of God is presented
today to the house of the Lord. She brings with her the grace of the Spirit, which the angels of God do praise. Truly this
woman is the Abode of Heaven!
From Vespers and Matins
Anna, truly blessed by God’s grace, led with gladness into the temple of the Lord the pure and Ever-Virgin, who is full
of grace, and she called the young girls to go before her, lamps in hand. “Go, child,” she said, “to Him who
gave you to me. Be to Him an offering and a sweet-smelling incense. Go into the place that none may enter. Learn its mysteries
and prepare yourself to become the pleasing and beautiful dwelling place of Jesus, who grants the world great mercy.”
Before your conception, O Pure Virgin, you were consecrated to God, and now after your birth, you are offered as a gift to Him
in the fulfillment of your parents’ promise. To the divine temple you are brought, yourself a divine Temple, innocent
from the time you were born. You have appeared in the sanctuary accompanied by brightly burning lamps since you are the
receiver of the Divine Light. Your entry into the temple is wonderful, O Virgin and Bride of God.
Tradition: From the Protoevangelion of James
And the child was two years old, and Joachim said: “Let us take her up to the temple of the Lord, that we may fulfill
the promise we have made, lest the Lord warn us and our offering not be received. And Anna said: “Let us wait a third
year, in order that the child may not seek father or mother.” And Joachim said: “Invite the daughters of the
Hebrews that are undefiled, and let them each take a lamp, and let them stand with the lamps burning, that the child may not
turn back, and her heart captivated with the temple of the Lord.” The priest received her, kissed her, blessed her, and
said, “The Lord has magnified your name in all generations. In you, in the last days, the Lord will manifest His
redemption to the sons of Israel.” And he set her down upon the third step of the altar, and the Lord God sent grace
upon her.
Theology
The main theme of the feast of Mary’s entrance into the temple, repeated many times in the liturgical services, is the
fact that she enters the Temple to become herself the living Temple of God, thus inaugurating the New Testament, in which is
fulfilled the prophesies of the Old Testament — namely that “the dwelling of God is with man” and that the
human person is the sole proper dwelling place of the Divine Presence (Ezekiel 37:27 and John 14:15-23).
Pastoral Ponderings: A Few Reasons to Give Thanks
During the coming week the holiday season begins with the celebration of Thanksgiving. I will be away for several days, and
Deacon Volek, who will represent Holy Family at the joint Thanksgiving Service at Seymour Heights Christian Church on
Wednesday evening, will conduct a Thanksgiving Communion Service at 9 a.m. at Holy Family for members of the Holy Family
and Holy Resurrection communities. While Thanksgiving Day is not a religious holiday as such, the concept of thanksgiving is
one that should permeate our entire life of prayer. Here are a few items that might prompt your personal gratitude:
I am thankful for the mess to clean up after a party because it means I am blessed with friends.
I am thankful for the taxes I pay because it means that I am employed.
I am thankful for my shadow that watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine.
I am thankful for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a
home.
I am thankful for the alarm that goes off early in the morning because it means I am alive.
