O ye incorporeal angels who stand before the throne of God, luminous with the brilliance thereof and everlastingly shining with radiance. As secondary luminaries, entreat Christ, that He grant unto our souls peace and great mercy. O immortal messengers of the truly incorruptible Life, ye most blessed ones who received life from the first Life, ye have become holy beholders of the eternal Wisdom, full of light, and reflecting lamps shown forth as is meet. O ye archangels and angels, principalities, thrones, dominions, six-winged seraphim, and divine, many-eyed cherubim, instruments of wisdom, virtues and powers most divine. Pray ye to Christ, that He grant our souls peace and great mercy. Archives:

Help Bring St. Therese to Knoxville
I am simply content to find myself always imperfect, and in this I find my joy. Good deeds count as nothing, if done without
love.
—St. Therese of Lisieux, 1873-1897
Therese, a new film about the life and times of St. Therese of Lisieux, will open Friday, Oct. 1 — but
only in a few select cities. However, if Luke Films, the movie’s production company, finds that our area has a large
enough “Potential Movie Going Audience” Therese may open in Knoxville. Please register your name and
address through the movie’s website, www.theresemovie.com, to show Luke Films
that East Tennessee wants to see Therese. Let’s bring “The Little Flower” to Knoxville!
The Patronage of the Most Holy Theotokos
Friday, Oct. 1, is the Feast of the Patronage of the Theotokos. Because Christ knew human nature very well, He left us to
His Holy Mother so that she could protect us from all evils — just as she had protected Him when He was a child. In
God’s loving providence we have the Theotokos as our spiritual mother, model, and comfort. God has exalted her above the
angels and saints. As our spiritual mother, she has our best interests at heart and we can approach her with confidence that
she will intercede for her spiritual children. Therefore let us pray for her intercession:
We believe and profess that you are truly the Mother of God and that, in your deep love for us, you are a fountain of mercy,
the consolation of the afflicted, a haven for the lost, a powerful and constant advocate before Christ, and the guarantee of
our repentance. Truly there is no help or refuge for humanity except in you, O merciful Lady. No one who hopes in you is ever
disappointed, no one who implores God through you is ever forsaken. For this reason, we beseech your inexhaustible goodness:
Open the gates of your mercy to us. We beseech the merciful God, born of you, that He forgive us, so that we may praise and
glorify God’s boundless mercy and your unfailing intercession for us, both in this life and in the age to come.
—Moleben to the Theotokos
Our Patroness
Mary the Mother of God, our spiritual mother and Mother of the Church, brings a certain tenderness, compassion, and loving
concern that has touched the hearts, souls, and minds of every generation throughout the history of the Church. Her title of
Mother reveals her unique relationship with her Son and with the Church. In this she is a wonderful source of inspiration,
hope, and courage as we face the many challenges and trials of our Church and society. The spread of secularism and
permissiveness seriously threatens the sacred values of the Christian norms of morality. This requires of us prayers, penance,
reparation, and reform to change whatever needs changing in our hearts based on the values of the Gospel.
On the tree of the Cross, Christ gave to us His most precious possession; the gift of His Mother is a treasure we shall always
cherish.
Solemn Holy Day — The Patronage of the Theotokos
Divine Liturgy for the Feast of the Patronage of the Theotokos will begin at
7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, here at the church.
Pastoral Ponderings: Fall Festival Approaching
Holy Family will hold its Fall Festival Oct. 17. While the festival is the primary money-raising event of the year, it
has also become a time when the various parish groups can enjoy an afternoon of activities and events. Prior to the event,
however, a tremendous amount of work needs to be done, and this year’s coordinator, Steve Gray, would appreciate your
assistance.
One of the projects to benefit from this year’s festival is the enclosing of the pavilion with removable sides to allow
the pavilion to be used more during inclement weather. With space at a premium in the “garden level,” this will be
a welcome addition to parish facilities, so mark your calendar for Oct. 17!
Speaking of money, here’s a story: A church was in need of repair, so the pastor called a special meeting inside the
church to raise funds. At the assembly the pastor explained the need for plastering the roof. He invited people to make
pledges. Mr. Murphy, the richest man in town, volunteered $50. Just as he sat down, a hunk of plaster fell from the
ceiling onto his head. Mr. Murphy jumped up looking terribly startled and corrected himself: “I meant $500!”
All stood silent and stunned. Then a lone voice cried out: “O Lord, hit him again!”
