O ye incorporeal angels who stand before the throne of God, luminous with the brilliance thereof and everlastingly shining with radiance. As secondary luminaries, entreat Christ, that He grant unto our souls peace and great mercy. O immortal messengers of the truly incorruptible Life, ye most blessed ones who received life from the first Life, ye have become holy beholders of the eternal Wisdom, full of light, and reflecting lamps shown forth as is meet. O ye archangels and angels, principalities, thrones, dominions, six-winged seraphim, and divine, many-eyed cherubim, instruments of wisdom, virtues and powers most divine. Pray ye to Christ, that He grant our souls peace and great mercy. Archives:

Food Sunday
Every 3rd Sunday is "Food Sunday." Please bring non-perishable food or items for the needy.
What infinite nothingness our food and drink represent on one side, adn what infinite grandeur the man himself who is fed by
them represents on the other side! Is it not the greatest insanity for man, for this image of God, for this partaker of the
divine nature, for whom... "God may be all in all" (1 Cor 15:28) ...to grudge food, drink, clothing, dwelling, and
anything else earthly, corruptible, and transitory! Therefore, do not be sparing of anything for our neighbor! O, what a great
honor it is to feed, to clothe, to give rest to the image of God! Most gracious and most bountiful God fill our hearts with
mercy and bountifulness!
St. John of Kronstadt
Saint Peter and Saint Paul
Lord, Your holy chief Apostles, Peter and Paul are even to this day splendid examples for all of us. They were not paper or
plastic saints but rather, they were real people, with good points and bad points in their characters. However, once they were
converted, they were always preaching and teaching the Lord Jesus Christ, and traveling and leading others toward the Kingdom.
And it did not matter what the cost to themselves personally. They were steadfast and faithful to the end of their lives. A
great example to us.
HOLY APOSTLES PETER AND PAUL PRAY FOR US!
Lamplighting Stichera of Vespers for the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul
The following paragraphs are an excerpt from the prayers said for the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul at Vespers yesterday
evening:
What crowns of praise shall we weave for Peter and Paul? They were separated in the body but united in spirit, and outstanding
as the preachers of God. The one indeed led the apostles, while the other labored more than all the rest. Christ our God,
showing great mercy, fittingly crowns them with immortal glory.
With what beautiful hymns shall we praise Peter and Paul? They are wings of divine knowledge, spreading out to the far ends of
the earth, and soaring aloft to heaven. They are two heads of the Gospel of grace, two feet of the preaching of the truth, two
rivers of wisdom and two arms of the Cross, through which the merciful Christ cast down demons.
With what spiritual songs shall we praise Peter and Paul? They slew the godless tongues of idolaters. They are fearful swords
of the Spirit and notable ornaments of Rome, nourishers of the whole world and the God-inspired tablets of the new covenant.
Christ, in his great mercy, has proclaimed their honor in Zion.
Our mission celebrates Vespers on Saturday evenings at 6:45 PM on weekends with no Divine Liturgy, as well as on eves of
holy days as part of the "all-night vigil". Please consider joining us.
Remembering the Holy Apostles
In Sacred Scripture, we often hear the followers of Jesus referred to as "apostles" or "disciples." A "disciple" is like a
student: someone who is taught by a teacher. On the other hand, an "apostle" is a messenger: someone who is sent out on a
mission. The Twelve Apostles were the primary messengers of the early Church. They were empowered by the Holy Spirit to go
forth and "baptize all nations" (Matthew 28:19), and for this many suffered martyrdom. Here is a list of the Apostles
whom we commemorate on June 30th the Synaxis of the Holy Apostles, the date they are commemorated on the
liturgical calendar, and the type of death they died:
Saint Peter (June 29th and January 16th) - Saint Peter was crucified upside down.
Saint Andrew (November 30th) - Saint Andrew was crucified.
Saint James, the son of Zebedee (April 30th) - Saint James was beheaded.
Saint John the Theologian (September 26th and May 8th) - Saint John died in a miraculous
manner.
Saint Philip (November 14th) - Saint Philip was crucified.
Saint Bartholomew (June 11th and August 25th) - Saint Bartholomew was crucified and
beheaded.
Saint Thomas (October 6th) - Saint Thomas was pierced with five spears.
Saint Matthew (November 16th) - Saint Matthew was burned alive.
Saint James, the son of Alphaeus (October 9th) - Saint James was crucified.
Saint Jude Thaddeus, the Brother of James (June 19th) - Saint Jude was crucified.
Saint Simon the Zealot (May 10th) - Saint Simon was crucified.
Saint Matthias (August 9th) - Saint Matthias was stoned and then beheaded after death.
Saint Paul (June 29th) - Saint Paul was beheaded.
Feast of the Deposition of the Robe of the Mother of God - July 2nd
In the fifth century, during the reign of Emperor Leo the Great and Patriarch Genadius, two noblemen from Constantinople,
Galibus and Candidus, traveled on a pilgrimage throughout the Holy Land. They desired to visit the holy sites, venerate the
holy shrines, and walk in the footsteps of Jesus.
While in Nazareth, however, they stopped at the home of a Jewish woman who was said to have the robe and belt of the Mother of
God hidden inside her house. The truth of this was confirmed when Galibus and Candidus witnessed the miraculous cure of many
faithful who were ill by praying to the Mother of God and touching the garment. Desiring a more suitable location for the holy
garment, Galibus and Candidus took the Precious Robe and brought it to Constantinople. By order of the emperor and the
patriarch, the vesture was solemnly placed inside the church dedicated to the Mother of God at Blachernae.
Over the next several centuries, especially in times of danger, the Mother of God is said to have appeared in Blachernae
holding her veil over the church and the entire city of Constantinople as if to protect it. Many Eastern Christians, with deep
devotion to the Mother of God as intercessor, still celebrate the Feast of the Holy Protection on October 1st.
Let us pray: "You have given us your sacred robe, a vestment of incorruption for all the faithful. It once covered your pure
body, O Pure One, not it is a tent-cloth to protect all mankind!" (From the Kontakion of the feast)
